November 3, 2006 - Ophthalmology Research Day
Location: The Balmoral Room, Four Points Sheraton Hotel.
There were 75 participants including department consultants, allied health professionals, community ophthalmologists, optometrists, and medical students who enjoyed the research presentations of our Ophthalmology residents.
The presentation given by our guest speaker, Dr. David Jordan, entitled “Eyelid Lumps and Bumps: When To Be Suspicious” received an excellent evaluation. A panel of 3 judges (Dr. D. Jordan, Dr. I. Hramiak and Dr. N.R. Willis) used established criteria to select winning research presentations. Dr. N. Desai, PGY-5 ophthalmology received The Dr. C.A. Thompson / Allergan award for the top presentation by a resident and Ms. T. Hess received the Merck Frosst Canada Inc. award for the best presentation by a medical student. A reporter from Ocular Surgery News was in attendance. This Research Day was graded as excellent in terms of content, length, facilities and lunch. Some participants suggested the possibility of handouts of relevant presentations.
Overall, the event was another successful and informative function for ocular research in the Southwestern Ontario Region.
